WHAT IS SEDATION DENTISTRY?

Many patients avoid the dentist due to anxiety associated with the procedure, however imagine having a complex dental procedure without any anxiety. At our dental office in Scottsdale we offer several forms of sedation for those patients whom are nervous. Patients who benefit from sedation dentistry have:

  • fear and  anxiety of going to the dentist
  • fear of needles or sharp tools
  • difficulty sitting in the chair for prolonged time
  • difficulty getting numb with local anesthesia

WHAT IS SEDATION DENTISTRY?

Patients who have been sedated can  tell that it is a comfortable and relaxing method to experience dental treatment. At our office we comfortably provide sedation for patients who experience anxiety when visiting the dentist. The advantages of sedation include:

  • reduced memory of the visit
  • reduced fear or anxiety during treatment
  • reduced sense of time
  • reduced sense of sound from dental hand piece
  • reduced fear or anxiety during treatment

Types of sedation offered at our office

Nitrous Oxide —also known as "laughing gas" or "happy gas", is the most frequently used method for easing mild to moderate anxiety. Recovery is quick and you can even drive home following the dental visit. A mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide is inhaled through a mask for the duration of your dental visit and you will be able to talk, or watch TV on our ceiling mounted monitors until your dental treatment is completed. We use laughing gas along with children's dentistry routinely so that children will have a comfortable dental experience.

Oral Sedation — Another common method of sedation used at our office to sedate is the use of a prescription pill. A Pill is usually taken half hour prior to your appointment and will have you relaxed by the time you arrive to you dental visit.

If you have any questions regarding dental sedation, please make an appointment with to discuss your sedation options.
