Dental x-rays are part of a dental exam and a full set of x-ray is usually required for patient that are new to our office. Full sets of x-rays, or even a CT scan may be required on patients with needs of extensive dental treatments and dental implant surgery.

Bite-wing x-rays are type of x-ray that show decay between the teeth and necessary every 6-18 months depending on each individual patient and risk factors.

It is important to have dental x-rays for many reasons. X-rays can expose hidden pathology,  show tooth decay, reveal abscess, cysts or tumor, show impacted or extra teeth and also help determine condition of dental restorations. They can also be used to determine the health of existing dental implants, root canals and determine the health of bone. Among other reasons to have x-rays tartar is often shown below the gum in periodontal disease (invisible otherwise) determination of  placement of dental implants and to find foreign bodies in the gum or jaw bone.

We understand that some patients may worry about their exposure to radiation during and therefore we have utilized digital x-rays in our office to minimize radiation exposure. By offer-ring digital x-rays we utilize the advantage of an 80-90% reduction in radiation compared to traditional film used years ago.

Please give our office a call if you need to be evaluated for any dental treatment.
